Friday and the 2nd weekend

Friday started with a change of plans. My supervising teacher Jane was sick, so it was decided that I would do my presentation on Monday. Nothing too special about the rest of the day. I kept on processing invoices, and was able to find a couple new students fluent in English, so the breaks were much more engaging. Sadly some of the students are away on some external studies for the next week, from what I understood. This means not everybody will be there for my presentation, but I will fill them in later on.

On Saturday I went to the Randers tropical zoo, which is situated near my apartment. I spent more than 4 hours in there, observing all the fascinating species brought there from all around the world. I've never before seen most of the animals, and I could simply flood this blog with all the pictures and videos that I took. Here are a couple of the more special ones.

I happened upon the bat cave right during their feeding time. I was allowed to feed them by holding a piece of fruit on my palm, and the little creatures would flock over it for a nibble.

On a walkway inside the South America dome. A couple of parrots chilling on the rope bridge. They must have been very used to visitors to not mind me taking a picture this close to them.
The manatees were by far my favorite. They were pretty hard to make out in the murky water, but I was lucky enough to get a picture of them when they swam closer to the plastic window. These guys spent most of their time scooping the bottom of the tank, but would come up at times for air.

The sloth really moves at a staggeringly slow speed. It was like watching a slow motion film. I nearly missed it, since it was hanging on the branches right above the water tank with the manatees.

The zoo had very impressive aquariums, and this one with the sea anemones really caught my eye. Just watching them move along with the currents was so relaxing.

The Komodo dragon. 1 bite from this guy is all it takes to kill anything in a matter of days. It's mouth is filled with a cesspool of bacteria, and it has a poison secreted from its lower jaw. This cocktail is enough to kill its prey through blood poisoning. The dragon follows its prey from afar after the prey, and waits for it to die. It is the biggest lizard in the world.

A howler monkey. The females are white, whilst the males are black. Sadly I did not get to hear any howling.

The main attraction of the zoo: the black panther. I got to them just as their feeding time was ongoing. The black jaguars do also have spots, which are visible in this picture.

On Sunday morning I decided to take part in the Sunday mass in the church next to my apartment. I had been thinking of going inside the church for a while, and this gave me a good opportunity to do so. It was pretty crowded, but I was able to find a place in the back row. The acoustics of the old church were superb, and I enjoyed immensely listening to the songs played by the organ above. Although I could not understand most of anything said during the sermon, I was able to figure out parts of it, since the routine was pretty similar as to the one performed in a Finnish protestant mass.

During the evening Me, Mads, and one of his friends went to see the new Logan movie at a local cinema. The movie was great, and it lasted for about 2,5 hours. Being very fond of movies, It was nice to have something worthwhile playing during my stay here.
